Community Guidelines

At Indie Music for Haiti, we have faith that you’re here for the right reason:  namely, to use music to help a devastated nation.  If you’re a visitor who’s come to watch or listen, just make sure you give a little something back by clicking through to one of our user-specified charities and contributing what you can.  If you’re a contributing artist, there are a few common-sense guidelines we assume you’ll follow:

  • Indie Music for Haiti (“IMFH”) is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes your video, even if it’s a video of yourself – even if there’s wonderful music involved – don’t post it on IMFH. Also, be advised that we work closely with law enforcement and we report child exploitation.
  • Don’t post videos showing bad stuff like animal abuse, drug abuse, under-age drinking and smoking, or bomb making.
  • Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone being physically hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don’t post it.
  • IMFH is not a shock site. Don’t post gross-out videos intended to shock or disgust.  Yes, this goes for all you black metal bands, as well.  The situation on the ground in Haiti is shocking enough.
  • Respect copyright. Only upload videos that you made or that you are authorized to use. This means don’t upload videos you didn’t make, or use content in your videos that someone else owns the copyright to, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programs, or videos made by other users, without necessary authorizations.
  • We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view. But we don’t permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity).  And we won’t permit videos or music files that suggest that the disaster in Haiti was anything but a tragic stroke of geographical bad luck.  You want to point out how much worse things are because of decades of shoddy government, interference by foreign powers, and so forth?  That’s okay.  Singing a song about how God wanted the disaster to happen, or about how little you care about the event, is definitely not okay, and will get you banned from the site.
  • Everyone hates spam. Don’t create misleading descriptions, tags, or titles in order to increase views. It’s not okay to post large amounts of untargeted, unwanted or repetitive content, including comments and private messages.
  • We cannot and will not monitor all links to charitable organizations in the User Comments you submit with your video or audio files.  But if we learn that you are sending viewers and listeners to a Website or entity that is not in existence to help the people of Haiti, you will be banned from the site – and, if appropriate, the proper authorities will be notified.
  • IMFH is a curated site.  As we grow, it may take longer than normal to review and post your submissions.  Please be patient – remember, we’re all here for the same reason:  to build an online community of musicians and music fans who want to help a devastated nation.
